To raise funds for this year\u2019s senior prom, the Marianas High School Prom Committee recently cleaned up in As Terlaje as part of the Marianas Visitors Authority\u2019s Beautify My Marianas campaign.<\/p>\n

Six members of the committee picked up trash along As Terlaje hill on Feb. 7, 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt first, everyone thought it would be a hard assignment since the strip that was given to us was a hill,\u201d said the group in their post-action report. \u201cWe were very fortunate to have the weather on our side because it would be such a disaster if the rain came while we were picking up trash.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sweeping along both sides of the hill, the group netted cans, plastic, cloth, broken headlights, food containers, cigarette butts, and more in their efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnowing that we were doing it to help the community gives us a realization that if we all come together, we can make Saipan more attractive, making the tourists come back to enjoy the island lifestyle and what we have to offer,\u201d said the group. \u201cAs we collected trash, cars honked. A generous citizen dropped off some refreshments and thanked us for helping the community. The overall road cleanup experience was great.\u201d<\/p>\n
