Tinian and Rota were both fully prepared as Typhoon Bavi came closest to the islands yesterday evening.<\/p>\n
Rota Mayor Efraim Atalig said his constituents are well prepared and are on standby.<\/p>\n
He said they aren\u2019t taking any emergency measures yet due to it being tropical storm condition 2. However, the Aging Center in Sinapalo has been identified as an evacuation and emergency shelter.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo far there is no disruption here and the airport is closed but all essential government agencies remain open. We have only one evacuee so far and they are at the Aging Center,\u201d Atalig said.<\/p>\n
He said that as soon as the typhoon intensifies, they would disseminate and start their emergency plans.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Tinian Mayor\u2019s Office has already activated its Emergency Operations Center as of 7am yesterday. Due to a power outage, the EOC was relocated to the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino.<\/p>\n
According to Tinian Mayor\u2019s Office liaison Eric San Nicolas, the EOC was organized and initiated since Thursday.<\/p>\n
San Nicolas confirmed that Tinian Elementary School has been designated as a typhoon shelter and currently has eight evacuees.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Tinian EOC involves the Mayor\u2019s Office and all departments on Tinian, including the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter and is a collaborative effort to ensure safety for the municipality,\u201d San Nicolas said.<\/p>\n
As Typhoon Bavi nears and intensifies, the shelter will be expecting more people and the EOC will be the point of contact for all and any emergency during the storm, he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
