Eloy S. Inos and Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres extended their condolences to Aldan\u2019s widow, Clotilde Kaipat Aldan; current Northern Islands Mayor Jerome Aldan, his siblings, and their family as they mourn the passing of Aldan, the sixth mayor of the Northern Islands.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_194213\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-194213\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a attid=\"194213\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Tobias-Aldan-mug2015.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Tobias-Aldan-mug2015-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"Former Northern Islands mayor Tobias Aldan.\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-194213\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-194213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former Northern Islands mayor Tobias Aldan.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Aldan, fondly called \u201cMayor Toby,\u201d served as mayor of the CNMI\u2019s northernmost municipality from 2010 to the end of his term in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Born on Feb. 9, 1947, Aldan grew up on an island that was still recovering from a war that changed both the geographic and social landscape of the Northern Marianas.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Inos said Aldan\u2019s desire to serve his islands \u201cled to a 37-year career in government service, including working for the Department of Public Works, and as public relations officer for the Northern Islands Mayor\u2019s Office, a department he himself would eventually oversee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs mayor, Aldan forged a strong working relationship with the administration and brought many issues facing Northern Island residents to the forefront, such as resettlement, economic development, and issues pertaining to military use of Pagan,\u201d Inos in the statement said. \u201cThrough his work, he has inspired many to continue his legacy, most notably his oldest child Jerome, who this year succeeded his father as mayor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inos further said the death of former mayor Aldan \u201cis a deep loss not only for his family and former constituents, but for the entire Commonwealth, and we join them as they mourn his passing and ask residents throughout the CNMI for prayers as well as to honor and celebrate the memory of this great public servant.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Northern Islands mayor Tobias Aldan passed away Monday night at the Commonwealth Health Center&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":49,"featured_media":194213,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[900,4],"tags":[3027,26,3028,3029],"class_list":["post-194211","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured","category-local-news","tag-clotilde-kaipat-aldan","tag-cnmi","tag-mayor-toby","tag-tobias-aldan"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/194211","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/49"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=194211"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/194211\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/194213"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=194211"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=194211"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=194211"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
