CNMI readers have a new addition to their Pacific collection at the Joeten Kiyu Public Library\u2014a rare firsthand account of the early beginnings of the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n
David M. Sablan, affectionately known as \u201cUncle Dave,\u201d donated 10 copies of his recently published book on his life in the early days of the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n
Sablan\u2019s book, A Degree of Success Through Curiosity, documents the historic early days of the CNMI, weaving these details with his story of overcoming the odds as a young boy who grew up during and after Word War II.<\/p>\n
Sablan was at the library yesterday to present the signed copies of his book. Staff and the directors of the CNMI Library Council were present for the donation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope future generations will read [the book],\u201d Sablan said. \u201cThe islands need young people to take over and run with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Life wasn\u2019t easy for him with his education, he said, but he hopes the book gives people hope to take their opportunities and \u201cmake the CNMI the choicest place to live.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope the book will assist\u201d in that, he said.<\/p>\n
Acting executive director Erlinda Naputi thanked Sablan for taking time off from his busy schedule to donate his books in person.<\/p>\n
She said kids and adults as well will benefit from the book and the \u201cknowledge of history and the growth of knowledge\u201d Sablan has.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be a great addition to our Pacific collection,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
