Nikkie Ayuyu defeated several contestants to become the winner of the 2015 Marianas Idol at the Northern Marianas College Charter Day, while a band called Out of the Ordinary made a name for itself by dominating the Battle of the Bands.<\/p>\n

Ayuyu, who sang Sam Smith\u2019s I\u2019m Not the Only One and accompanied himself on a guitar, won the votes of the judges with his acoustic rendition of the hit song.<\/p>\n

Out of the Ordinary\u2019s harmonization of different songs won them the 2015 Battle of the Bands plum, while their stage presence and presentation of roses to those in the crowd won the hearts of the audiences. Judges also commended them on their energy.<\/p>\n

Out of the Ordinary\u2019s music director John Jimeno said it took them about two weeks to practice for the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey actually have been performing about a year now and they put in the time and the hard work and it paid off tonight,\u201d Jimeno said.<\/p>\n

Several band members said they wouldn\u2019t have been able to give the performances they did that night without the support of their mentors and the friendships within the band.<\/p>\n

NMC Charter Day this year was a lot livelier compared to last year. People got to see live entertainment, food, and drinks.<\/p>\n

Queanna Sablan, NMC Charter Day person-in-charge and program manager of the Office of Student Activities and Leadership, said the staff worked really hard to get Charter Day going and, despite the schedule being behind for the performances, it all turned out great.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Charter Day celebration marked NMC\u2019s 34 years of enriching lives through higher education. It started at 4pm and ended close to 11pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
