{"id":194965,"date":"2015-03-27T04:00:16","date_gmt":"2015-03-26T18:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=194965"},"modified":"2015-03-27T04:00:16","modified_gmt":"2015-03-26T18:00:16","slug":"arago-has-compatriots-in-his-heart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/arago-has-compatriots-in-his-heart\/","title":{"rendered":"Arago has compatriots \u2018in his heart\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently confirmed Philippine honorary consul Eli Arago will look to the wants and needs of his countrymen in the CNMI.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippine Consulate General in Guam announced Wednesday that Arago has been confirmed by the U.S. State Department as honorary consul.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview, Arago said that Consul General Marciano De Borja pushed his appointment, passing on his selection to the U.S. State Department for confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>He said Borja told him that there are formalities to be done first before he assumes the responsibilities as honorary consul, which includes processing reports of birth and other documents, not including passports.<\/p>\n<p>This could be done as soon as in May or June.<\/p>\n<p>Arago said he believes his office at JP Center is \u201cenough to handle the job,\u201d noting that he thinks his Tan Holdings family will support him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about utilizing the resources that you have, the people. And as I\u2019ve said, leadership will count. If you know how to lead, it\u2019s easy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said he would try his best to exercise what is expected of him as honorary consul. \u201cI know I can help my kababayans [compatriots]. I believe people will share with me what they need and what they want. I can\u2019t promise anything at this time but one thing I\u2019m sure of is, I will really help our kababayans because it\u2019s in my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Right now the CNMI has no Philippine consulate.
