The 2nd Women\u2019s Summit hosted by the CNMI Women\u2019s Association successfully ended, according to vice chair Jovita Taimanao during her remarks at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The summit, which ran for two days on Monday and Tuesday, brought a panel of speakers looking to empower women as leaders in the workforce, preservers of culture, and promoters of a healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n
The summit highlighted the CWA\u2019s mission, which is to ensure that women are fully engaged in the political, economic, and social development of the CNMI.<\/p>\n
On its last day, more than 60 women came together to come up with resolutions that will be unveiled at the next Women\u2019s Summit.<\/p>\n
Rep. Felicidad Ogumoro (R-Saipan), who chairs the association, said the resolutions, which identified issues and concerns important to women, will be analyzed and summarized toward a targeted goal that they will aim to achieve before another summit is held.<\/p>\n
On the first day of the summit, two topics were discussed: \u201cEmpowering Women as Leaders\u201d and \u201cWomen in the Workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yesterday the summit began at 7am and ended after 4:15pm. A panel of speakers talked about \u201cCultural Preservation and Practices\u201d and \u201cPromoting Healthier Lifestyles.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the end, one of the main things they want to see most in the community is to see more leadership positions for women in commissions, boards, the Legislature, and possibly as governor or lieutenant governor of the islands.<\/p>\n
Others spoke about healthier lifestyles by pushing the 19th Legislature to pass a bill levying higher taxes on sugary products and health screening in villages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
