{"id":198379,"date":"2015-04-06T12:20:43","date_gmt":"2015-04-06T02:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=198379"},"modified":"2015-04-06T12:20:43","modified_gmt":"2015-04-06T02:20:43","slug":"mafnas-gets-special-projects-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/mafnas-gets-special-projects-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Mafnas gets special projects post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Department of Corrections commissioner Ramon Mafnas will continue to work for the government, this time as a special assistant for project development.<\/p>\n<p>Press Secretary Ivan Blanco said the appointment means Mafnas will work closely with potential investors coming to the CNMI.<\/p>\n<p>The official said one of the responsibilities of Mafnas is to liaise with investors and guide them through the process of getting permits and licenses necessary to start a business in the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<p>The position is a newly created government post.<\/p>\n<p>In a brief statement, Mafnas confirmed his appointment, saying he \u201cwill continue to serve\u201d in this new capacity. He said there are a number of agencies that investors need to go to, and one of his main responsibilities is to help these companies \u201cnavigate\u201d the complex process.<\/p>\n<p>Mafnas was given an office on Capital Hill. He started work last week.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Mafnas\u2019 courtesy resignation as head of the Department of Corrections was accepted by the administration of Gov. Eloy S. Inos.<\/p>\n<p>It was earlier announced that Mafnas will not be appointed to a Cabinet-level position, but will still be part of government.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement after his departure as Corrections chief, Mafnas said: \u201cIt is a privilege and honor to serve at the pleasure of past and present governors and lieutenant governors as both co-coordinator of the U.S.-CNMI consent decrees since 2006 and DOC commissioner since 2010.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has always been my desire to promote professional standards, performance and efficiency in all things that I am assigned to carry out and or oversee,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>During the administration of then-governor Benigno R.
