{"id":198792,"date":"2015-04-10T04:00:43","date_gmt":"2015-04-09T18:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=198792"},"modified":"2015-04-10T04:00:43","modified_gmt":"2015-04-09T18:00:43","slug":"nmc-reps-featured-at-national-disabilities-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/nmc-reps-featured-at-national-disabilities-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"NMC reps featured at National Disabilities Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Representatives of the Northern Marianas College\u2019s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, or UCEDD, recently presented at a national meeting of UCEDD leaders in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n<p>David Attao, dean of Administration and Resource Development, and Floyd Masga, UCEDD director and CDI acting director, led a discussion on the efforts and services that are provided in the Marianas to promote equal opportunity, independence, productivity, self-determination and support for individuals with developmental disabilities. Their presentation was made at the 2015 UCEDD Directors Retreat and Technical Assistance Institute.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_198793\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-198793\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a attid=\"198793\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Disabilities-pix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Disabilities-pix-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"NMC\u2019s David Attao, partly hidden, second from left, and Floyd Masga, fourth from right. recently presented at a national disabilities meeting. (Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis was a great opportunity to share the college\u2019s progress in providing training, technical assistance, and information-sharing sharing especially in terms of building capacity,\u201d said Attao.<\/p>\n<p>More than 90 UCEDD directors and representatives from all over the United States participated. This was the first time for CNMI UCEDD to be invited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also highlighted the expertise and diverse resources available in the UCEDDs of the outlying territories, how we network and engage assets to continue to grow our collective capacity, and the existing and potential partnerships or collaborations we have built over the years,\u201d Masga said.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the CNMI\u2019s participation in this meeting, there was significant discussion regarding the potential of the UCEDD at NMC becoming independent.
