{"id":199234,"date":"2015-04-15T04:00:28","date_gmt":"2015-04-14T18:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=199234"},"modified":"2015-04-15T04:00:28","modified_gmt":"2015-04-14T18:00:28","slug":"cuc-looks-at-entry-level-salaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cuc-looks-at-entry-level-salaries\/","title":{"rendered":"CUC looks at entry-level salaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board director Joe Torres asked CUC management last week to return the bottom end of CUC\u2019s pay scale to $15,000.<\/p>\n<p>During board discussion, the current pay rate of $14,704 was discussed between the board and CUC\u2019s Human Resources and management.<\/p>\n<p>The board adopted CUC\u2019s pay ranges in November but, according to Torres, he had assumed the entry level was at $15,000 a year.<\/p>\n<p>Torres asked the corporation to revisit the pay ranges and change the rate for entry-level positions.<\/p>\n<p>CUC executive director Alan Fletcher clarified that the $14,704 number was the \u201cbottom end\u201d of the pay range. \u201cWe currently have no one making the minimum,\u201d he said. \u201cBut that\u2019s possible depending on the skill level of the employee that we would hire in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the ability to raise the minimum level for CUC maintenance workers\u2014 their lowest rated or classified positions\u2014rests with the board.<\/p>\n<p>The current pay rate was lowered in 2006, from a pay rate of $15,000 established in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>Torres said he wants the pay rate to \u201cgo back\u201d to 2004. \u201cWe have a local workforce we are trying to bring in,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>The CUC board had adopted \u201cpay rate option 3\u201d last November, with a lowest pay rate of $14,704.<\/p>\n<p>To accommodate Torres\u2019 request, CUC staff indicated they could switch this pay rate with part of another proposed pay rate option, or \u201cpay rate option 2.\u201d This had a lowest pay rate of $15,495 a year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board director Joe Torres asked CUC management last week to return the&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":47,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[1367,49,1537,3063],"class_list":["post-199234","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-alan-fletcher","tag-cuc","tag-human-resources","tag-joe-torres"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/199234","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/47"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=199234"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/199234\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=199234"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=199234"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=199234"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
