A 17-year-old male was injured when a car hit him as he was crossing on the crosswalk along Beach Road near the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium in Susupe Saturday afternoon, police said.<\/p>\n

The victim, described as a local, was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center by medics for further treatment, according to Department of Public Safety acting spokesman Jason Tarkong yesterday.<\/p>\n

Tarkong said a 46-year-old woman was the driver of the beige 2004 Nissan Sentra that struck the pedestrian.

The vehicle sustained damage to the front hood and a cracked windshield.<\/p>\n

Tarkong said the accident happened as the teenager was attempting to cross the pedestrian crosswalk from Ada Gym toward the Kilili Beach area.<\/p>\n

Tarkong said witnesses stated that prior to the accident, the pedestrian light was flashing and a car had stopped on the outer northbound lane.<\/p>\n

There were no vehicles approaching from the southbound lanes.<\/p>\n

Tarkong said the teenager started to cross through the crosswalk when the Nissan Sentra, which was travelling north on the inside lane, suddenly struck him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo information regarding the pedestrian\u2019s injuries was released. Investigation is ongoing,\u201d Tarkong said.<\/p>\n
