ASAN, Guam<\/strong>\u2014Three Joint Region Marianas fire and emergency services personnel competed for the Commander, Navy Installations Command FES award and received recognition in their respective categories.<\/p>\n

Andersen Air Force Base FES Fire Prevention Chief Ernest Rios, Assistant Fire Chief of HAZMAT, Safety Master Sgt. Crispin Pacificar, and Firefighter Christopher Cruz were named runners-up as the Navy Fire Inspector of the Year, Navy Military Fire Officer of the Year and Navy Civilian Firefighter of the year, respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese nominations are a reflection of our whole team,\u201d Cruz said. \u201cIn the fire department we are a team, we\u2019re a family and no one does it on their own. I am very happy to represent the department and to be the runner-up for the Navy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pacificar shared Cruz\u2019s sentiments and said although the nomination was unexpected, he was honored to have been recommended for the award.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t believe it at first, but it is amazing,\u201d he said. \u201cFor me this job isn\u2019t about recognition, it\u2019s doing what you love to do and I love it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rios, Cruz, and Pacificar competed with more than 4,000 FES personnel for the awards Navy-wide.<\/p>\n

AAFB Fire Chief John Thompson said he nominated the three individuals because of their outstanding work performance and contributions to the base and region.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always been a big fan of recognition programs,\u201d he said. \u201cI feel it is important, an integral part of our job as senior leaders within the fire department to recognize the efforts of our superstars.\u201d<\/p>\n

JRM Regional Fire Chief Cort Jamison said he takes great pride in the recognition of FES personnel as they perform complex duties in a high-demand environment.<\/p>\n
