The Commonwealth Casino Commission is ready to do its job once a temporary casino opens on Saipan.<\/p>\n
Casino Commission chair Juan Sablan and the rest of the commission recently traveled to Las Vegas to undergo a weeklong training.<\/p>\n
The commissioners flew to Las Vegas in March for a three-day training, and again last month for a second round of training.<\/p>\n
Sablan said the commissioners \u201clearned a lot\u201d and, by the time the temporary casino opens in June or July, the regulators will be ready, he said.<\/p>\n
Preparations are still being made, including the hiring of staff that will man the commission\u2019s office in Garapan.<\/p>\n
The office will operate 24×7 once the casino is in full swing.<\/p>\n
Sablan said the April training was \u201cintensive,\u201d combining both on-campus and gaming floor training.<\/p>\n
The five-man commission underwent training at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. According to its website, the University of Nevada in Las Vegas offers casino auditing and casino management to improve \u201ccasino controls, policies, and procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n
The casino training facility will be located on the first floor of the T Galleria in Garapan.<\/p>\n
Saipan casino licensee Best Sunshine International, Ltd. earlier said that T Galleria is ideal for the training facility, considering the number of tourists billeted in hotels around Garapan. The firm plans to invite tourists and promote the facility, which will open by June or July.<\/p>\n
