Macau-based Alter City Group will meet with Gov. Eloy S. Inos today on Capital Hill to present a ceremonial check as partial payment for the firm\u2019s siting permit.<\/p>\n
Press secretary Ivan Blanco said the partial payment will be \u201caround $1.2 million as siting fees.\u201d<\/p>\n
Payment of the siting fees is required by the CNMI through the Division of Coastal Resources Management office.<\/p>\n
Key executives of Alter City are expected to be on Capital Hill for ceremony.<\/p>\n
The company secured from the government last year a lease on a 152-hectare Tinian land for a $360-million casino resort that it expects to complete within 12 years.<\/p>\n
The development is in three phases and includes the construction of 1,000 hotel rooms, water parks, an 18-hole golf course, villas, casino facilities, and related tourism amenities.<\/p>\n
In November 2014, a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives unanimously approved the public land lease.<\/p>\n
Alter City Group plans to build its casino resort at Puntan Diablo, also known as Nasarino, on Tinian.<\/p>\n
It is the same area that was previously leased by Marianas Resort Development Corp., or MRDC, before the latter abandoned the lease. MRDC had planned to build a $300-million Matua Bay Casino Resort on the property, including an 18-hole golf course.<\/p>\n
The relocation of Tinian\u2019s landfill in Puntan Diablo, meanwhile, is still being discussed with the U.S. military but a proposed site has already been identified, according to Tinian Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe property where the dump sits has been leased to Alter City Group so the leadership is working very hard to relocate the dump and we\u2019ve thought that the appropriate site should be at Pina,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Alter City has proposed to provide funding for the relocation of the dumpsite, saying they wouldn\u2019t move forward with their project until Tinian\u2019s leadership relocates the dumpsite.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
