Lt. Gov. Ralph Torres recently proclaimed the month of May as Karidat Month, recognizing the non-profit\u2019s commitment to the island community.<\/p>\n
\u201cKaridat Social Services assists people of all economic levels in the community, without regard to race, religion, sex, age, creed, disability or place of origin, to address problems arising from personal or family problems, external circumstances, or intrapersonal conflicts,\u201d the resolution partly states.<\/p>\n
The organization is hosting a food drive as a part of its monthlong activities, as promised by its new executive director, Lauri Ogumoro.<\/p>\n
Ogumoro said she is concerned that children will not have adequate food after the school year ends. \u201cHaving a full pantry ready for when school is out is very important,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The month, themed \u201cGiving Hope, Building Future,\u201d is also a celebration of the work done to \u201cserve the least of our brothers\u201d in our community, according to Ogumoro.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe purpose of the events is to come together as members of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa to support the work of Karidat and the individuals and families we serve,\u201d she told Saipan Tribune. \u201cWe hope to inspire members of the diocese to help us fill the Karidat Food Pantry in order to serve our neighbors who are in need.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ogumoro also announced that the organization\u2019s new temporary office is in the V.S.S building in Chalan Piao. While there, they will work on obtaining grants that will be used to demolish their old office and build a new one on the same site within two to three years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will be working hard on achieving this goal,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Karidat Social Services was established on May 5, 1980, and provides direct client services of emergency housing and food assistance, safe housing, advocacy to victims of crime, counseling services, and case management.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
