VILLANUEVA)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s contestants\u2014Jian Joyner, Dana Manglona, Riana McCale, Daysia San Nicolas, Joanna Navarro, and Irene Torres\u2014were presented to the media on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very excited. I\u2019ve been preparing for two months. We\u2019ve had practices and at home my family helps me with the question and answer parts and I practice my walk wherever I go. I hope I win,\u201d said 20-year-old Joyner, who is an associate degree holder in Liberal Arts.<\/p>\n<p>Manglona, also 20 years old, said it was her childhood dream to become an international model and beauty queen. She also wants to become a Web and graphic designer specialist.<\/p>\n<p>McCale, 20, wanted to overcome her shyness, which is why she joined the pageant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a really shy person so I thought joining the pageant would be a great way for me to grow as a person and also build up my self-confidence,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about who her role model in life is, San Nicolas said it was her grandmother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy grandma is my role model because she was the strongest woman I knew. She was the heart of the family even if she suffered from having cancer for 10 years,\u201d San Nicolas, 19, said.<\/p>\n<p>Among the winner\u2019s prizes is a chance to create and implement a community project under her name assisted by the islands\u2019 nonprofit pageant and talent group, Stellar Marianas.<\/p>\n<p>Navarro, 19, and Torres, 20, each have a different program in mind.<\/p>\n<p>For Navarro she wants to develop programs that are related to the tourism industry and sports while Torres wants to create programs and projects that center around children, teens, and young adults.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the islands will see not only a new crowned queen but also a great show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe theme is vintage Hollywood so they\u2019re going to be in a for a great show.
