After Typhoon Dolphin\u2019s gusty winds and rains on Friday night, a warm Saturday morning was waiting for Saipan residents as Java Bakery reopened in Paradise Hotel on Middle Road.<\/p>\n
One would think that after a storm, everyone would just stay home but surprisingly, a lot has been up and about very early. The bakery opened at 7am and did a simple ribbon cutting around 8am. Around that time, more than 50 people have already dropped by.<\/p>\n
\u201cVery busy, but very good. Seems to have a lot of happy customers and this is my first day offering lunches and so far it\u2019s been a pretty enthusiastic reception, so I\u2019m very happy about it,\u201d owner Sarah Fryling said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn spite of the power going out three times while I was trying to get ready this morning, it still turned out pretty well,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
According to Fryling, she wasn\u2019t much intimidated by the cyclone because she was banking on the forecasts that said it will be gone by Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
Instead of thinking there won\u2019t be much customers, she viewed it as a perfect opportunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cI figured people probably aren\u2019t going to have power, they\u2019re going to be bored, there\u2019s nothing much to do today, everything\u2019s closed. It\u2019s a perfect opportunity for me to give them something to do, somewhere to go,\u201d Fryling said<\/p>\n
Adding to her luck, Paradise Hotel was fully occupied the night before because of the typhoon. Some of them went for breakfast at her bakery.<\/p>\n
Aside from adults who woke up early, or maybe weren\u2019t able to sleep at all, children also enjoyed their breakfast while playing in the kid\u2019s corner.<\/p>\n
And despite coming from a chilly and scary night, the atmosphere in the shop was fun and light\u2014which may be because of the warm drinks and comforting food.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of hot chocolate orders. That\u2019s kind of an unusual order, not too many people get that but it seems to be appealing today,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
