{"id":202529,"date":"2015-05-25T06:00:56","date_gmt":"2015-05-24T20:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=202529"},"modified":"2015-05-25T06:00:56","modified_gmt":"2015-05-24T20:00:56","slug":"joyner-to-compete-in-two-intl-pageants-as-miss-marianas-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/joyner-to-compete-in-two-intl-pageants-as-miss-marianas-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Joyner to compete in two int\u2019l pageants as Miss Marianas 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After months of grueling preparations and practice, the night to crown the new queen of the Marianas came vintage Hollywood-style as the Miss Marianas 2015 was held at Regency Saipan\u2018s Sandcastle Theater last Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Of the six lovely ladies who joined this year\u2019s restaging of the island\u2019s beauty pageant, 20-year-old Jian Joyner took home the crown. She also won the Stellar Star, Best in National Costume, and Best in Swimsuit awards.<\/p>\n<p>Dana Manglona, who came in second place, won the Best in Evening Gown and Miss Photogenic awards.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_202530\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-202530\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a attid=\"202530\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Joyner-pix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Joyner-pix-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Dressed in her white evening gown, Jian Joyner, third from left, was crowned Miss Marianas 2015 at the Hyatt\u2019s Sandcastle Theater last Thursday. Villanueva)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n\u201cWin or lose, I still have that crown of mine to be an inspiration to all,\u201d Manglona said.<\/p>\n<p>Joanna Navarro made it to the Top 3. Daysia San Nicolas won the Texters\u2019 Choice award while Irene Torres was named Miss Friendship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s affairs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although she seemed initially flustered by the question in the final Q&#038;A portion of the pageant, Joyner retained her composure and was able to bounce back.<\/p>\n<p>The final question\u2014which was asked of the Top 3 candidates\u2014asked their opinion on the statement: \u201cThe CNMI Women\u2019s Affairs Office is mandated by our CNMI constitution and women make up the largest portion of our population. Yet it is one of the first programs cut when public funds are low. Give us, the CNMI taxpayers, a good reason why the Women\u2019s Affairs Office and its programs should be fully funded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her response, Joyner said that women nowadays are as capable as men and that women should be given any opportunity to do what they can.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just completely blank. I\u2019m just so happy that I won,\u201d Joyner later said after her coronation.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the crown, trophy, sash, flowers, cash and other various gift prizes, Joyner as Miss Marianas 2015 will be competing in the 2015 Miss Earth and the 2015 Miss International pageants.<\/p>\n<p>She also has an opportunity to create and implement a community project under her name and with the assistance of Stellar Marianas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy platform is to define what it means to be a Marianas woman and I think that I should do more activities with young women,\u201d said Joyner when asked about what possible program she will implement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited; it\u2019s going to be a great year. We have a lot to prepare for the two international competitions and I know that she\u2019s going to be very active in the community and we\u2019ll help her promote her platform,\u201d Stellar Marianas president Laila Boyer said.<\/p>\n<p>Judges of this year\u2019s pageant were IT&#038;E CEO John Compton, Miss NMI Universe \u201998 Helene Manning, and Triple J Motors sales associate Merci Sablan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>40 years<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year was special to the Stellar Marianas as they celebrate 40 years.
