{"id":202730,"date":"2015-05-28T13:45:33","date_gmt":"2015-05-28T03:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=202730"},"modified":"2015-05-28T13:45:33","modified_gmt":"2015-05-28T03:45:33","slug":"dlnr-will-not-pursue-resumption-of-sabalu-market-in-garapan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/dlnr-will-not-pursue-resumption-of-sabalu-market-in-garapan\/","title":{"rendered":"DLNR will not pursue resumption of Sabalu Market in Garapan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Department of Lands and Natural Resources Secretary Richard Seman will notify the Sabalu Market to cease its operations at the Garapan Fishing Base.<\/p>\n<p>According to Seman, the Department of Public Lands has informed his office that the temporary authorization, or TA, that allowed the Saipan Sabalu Farmers Market to set up their tents and sales of fresh produce on Tuesday in Garapan has since expired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026Supposedly since Sept. 20, 2013,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this information I have to notify [Sabalu Market] president Manny Borja to cease its Tuesday market events immediately,\u201d Seman told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>DLNR will not be pursuing the market\u2019s resumption any time soon, he said.<\/p>\n<p>This goes to their effort to ensure success of the CNMI Farmer\u2019s Cooperative Association, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmer\u2019s Co-op is seen as Sabalu\u2019s competitor and runs at the Garapan Public Market right near where Sabalu sets up their Tuesday tents.<\/p>\n<p>DPL has designated a portion of the Garapan Fishing Base to DLNR to operate this public market.
