Marianas High School\u2019s \u201cBasic Agriculture\u201d class harvested the products of their hard work these last two months in their school plot Thursday last week.<\/p>\n

The class of about a dozen students harvested tomatoes, water spinacg, Chinese cabbage, corn, radish, snap beans, onion, okra, and string beans.

\nFreshman Jimmy Blancia\u2019s message Thursday was to \u201ckeep planting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s healthy. It\u2019s good for our island,\u201d he said, encouraging others to get into planting. \u201cTomato is not a bad thing. It\u2019s good to grow. Plus the exercise is good.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey showed interested, enthusiasm,\u201d said farmer Isidoro Cabrera of his students.<\/p>\n

He called agriculture important for the islands\u2019 future.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026Especially with our expanding economic base here, there are more people, more hotels, and they always ask for locally produced fruits and vegetables.<\/p>\n

He said the class taught students the \u201cbasics\u201d but a lot could still be learned.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey learned the basic way, from planting to harvest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The plot uses a nearby MHS water tank for irrigation on their 40-by-60 plot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
