{"id":203345,"date":"2015-06-03T06:06:14","date_gmt":"2015-06-02T20:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=203345"},"modified":"2015-06-03T06:06:14","modified_gmt":"2015-06-02T20:06:14","slug":"five-new-positions-for-cuc-power-division","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/five-new-positions-for-cuc-power-division\/","title":{"rendered":"Five new positions for CUC power division"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board approved five new positions for the utility\u2019s power division last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>This came amid discussion about CUC\u2019s restoration efforts during and after Typhoon Dolphin last month.<\/p>\n<p>Board director Albert A. Taitano, who is also chair of the personnel committee, motioned for a vote on these new positions, which are all for power crew linemen.<\/p>\n<p>CUC power division manager Gary Camacho on Friday said they received 131 trouble calls due to Typhoon Dolphin.<\/p>\n<p>There were about 21 CUC crewmen working during the typhoon.<\/p>\n<p>In total, CUC\u2019s call center received 3,992 calls from customers before, during, and after the typhoon.<\/p>\n<p>When asked, Camacho told board members there were about one or two linemen at each feeder.<\/p>\n<p>He said CUC crew worked together for 18-hour shifts, but four remained on shift during the off period.<\/p>\n<p>He said they were lucky that damages weren\u2019t as extensive as they thought.<\/p>\n<p>He said with more personnel they would save money.<\/p>\n<p>Taitano and the board, meanwhile, commended CUC\u2019s restoration efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Taitano called for letters of commendation and certifications for all CUC staff on Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.
