Come interact with NOAA scientists as they are about to conduct targeted research in the Mariana Islands Archipelago. Several of the scientists will give an orientation on their planned efforts. Presentations will start at 5:30pm today.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Erin Oleson will present on cetacean observations obtained during the recent NOAA Oscar Elton Sette cruise to the CNMI Northern Islands. Included will be early findings concerning presence and abundance of Humpback Whale and other marine mammal populations within our local waters.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Donald Kobayashi will present on his extensive research involving fisheries oceanography in the central and western Pacific, as well as his team\u2019s research plans for the upcoming NOAA Oscar Elton Sette M.I. Archipelago cruise. This expedition will start on June 11 this year.<\/p>\n<p>John Denton will talk about the mid-water trawling sampling method planned during this fisheries oceanography cruise. Included will be projections concerning what information will be gathered from this sampling technique and how it is hoped this could be used to enhance fisheries management regimes.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Mooney will talk about the trap sampling particularly targeting Kona crab, including the variety of fish and invertebrates that may be harvested using this method.<\/p>\n<p>Come and participate in these talks, co-hosted by the CNMI\u2019s Asia Pacific Academy of Sciences, Science Education, and Environmental Management (www.apaseem.org) at the American Memorial Park auditorium.
