The Saipan Seniors Advisory Council crowned their new Man\u2019amk\u00f3 King and Queen to cap the celebration of Older American\u2019s Month in May.<\/p>\n
Hailed king for this year was Diego Pua, while Minerva Maghanoy was crowned queen.<\/p>\n
Maghanoy said she joined the annual pageant to help and give back to the man\u2019amk\u00f3.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been in the man\u2019amk\u00f3 for the last two years so it\u2019s just but fitting to give back,\u201d Minerva said. \u201cI am grateful to all who supported the 2015 Man\u2019amk\u00f3 King and Queen Fundraising.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pua hopes to further help the man\u2019amk\u00f3 with various activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really want to help them. I want the man\u2019amk\u00f3 to be healthy. My responsibility as king now is to do activities that will help them,\u201d Pua said.<\/p>\n
Winners were based on sales of raffle tickets that help fund the man\u2019amk\u00f3\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n
SSAC president Maria Salinas was happy with the turnout of the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the best ever activity for the man\u2019amk\u00f3. Everybody\u2019s heart was in this,\u201d Salinas said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have our [new] royal court, the outgoing royal court, so we all got together and we had a big, big, big fun,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
The coronation ball at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan last May 30 served as the culmination of the monthlong celebration. However, for Aging Director Walter Manglona, honoring the man\u2019amk\u00f3 should continue.<\/p>\n
\u201cOlder Americans Month mainly focuses on just being able to honor the senior citizens, but it should not end just because Older Americans Month is over,\u201d Manglona said. \u201cThat should continue all the time. We encourage everybody to continue to respect the elderly and to also get them involved in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
