{"id":204073,"date":"2015-06-12T04:00:12","date_gmt":"2015-06-11T18:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=204073"},"modified":"2015-06-12T04:00:12","modified_gmt":"2015-06-11T18:00:12","slug":"kagman-high-graduates-135-ayuyus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/kagman-high-graduates-135-ayuyus\/","title":{"rendered":"Kagman High graduates 135 Ayuyus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kagman High School seniors cheered \u201cA-Y-U-Y-U\u201d one last time as their four years of high school together came to end at the American Memorial Park yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>KHSs Class of 2015 was welcomed with a large crowd spilling over the seats of the park\u2019s amphitheater yesterday afternoon. Such dignitaries as Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres, members of the Legislature, and other leaders also welcomed the class.<\/p>\n<p>As some of the guest speakers and emcees spun it yesterday, the Public School System\u2014after the graduations of Marianas High School and Saipan Southern High School the previous two days\u2014saved \u201cthe best class for last.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_204074\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-204074\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Clea-San-Nicolas.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-204074 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Clea-San-Nicolas-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-204074\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clea-San-Nicolas, valedictorian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Class valedictorian Clea San Nicolas, in her address, reminded her fellow graduates of the \u201cevolution\u201d and \u201cmolting\u201d during the last four years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have broken out of our old shells,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the last tidal wave [senior year], time quickly passed as we completed our high school years. Many of us developed senioritis\u2014a disease with a long list of symptoms\u2014procrastination, fatigue, headaches, entitlement, and mood swings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike in our freshmen year, our emotions were once again a confusing mix of trepidation, confidence, fear, hesitation and enthusiasm,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>But as the year went on, San Nicolas said\u2014to loud cheering from her classmates\u2014they soon came to realize that \u201cthe only thing to cure to senioritis was graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will break out of our shells, we will molt, growing and falling, dreaming and doing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_204075\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-204075\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Paolo-Josef-Reyes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-204075\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Paolo-Josef-Reyes-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Paolo Josef Reyes, salutatorian.\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-204075\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paolo Josef Reyes, salutatorian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Salutatorian Paolo Josef Reyes, who was voted \u201cmost serious\u201d at their senior prom, asked to close his address with \u201cone last clich\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen closely. Why aim for the sky, when there are footprints on the moon?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrainstorm your answers\u2014I want your answers in an essay, MLA (Modern Language Association) format, with at least 500 words,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n<p>Following San Nicolas and Reyes in the KHS\u2019 \u201cTop Ten\u2014or students with the highest grade point averages\u2014were Mebric Navisaga, Malaina Gabriel Kileleman, Kioki Kyler Kapileo, Emmalou Mae Cabrera, Kimverlyn Mae Butters, Christian Jacob Punzulan, Dimitrios Camacho, and Dionne Jasmine Asano Deleon Guerrero.<\/p>\n<p>Education Commissioner Dr. Rita Sablan acknowledged the seniors for being the pilot class for their Distance Education\u2014or online learning\u2014program when it began four or five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Sablan, who taught a couple of those classes, said her two top students then, were also the two top students yesterday, San Nicolas and Reyes.<\/p>\n<p>Board of Education chairman Herman T. Guerrero also commended the seniors for their class average of a 2.6 GPA.<\/p>\n<p>Victorino Torres, lawyer and brother of the lieutenant governor, brought his \u201cquack on\u201d to the ceremony when he pulled out a \u201cduck call,\u201d the traditional whistle used to emulate the sound of duck.<\/p>\n<p>Victorino Torres, who gave the keynote speech, was telling the students to be the \u201cbest they can become\u201d in whatever they do. Torres is also a competitive poker player.<\/p>\n<p>He demonstrated the different kinds of calls he and his brothers studied up on to attract ducks to them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if were the beset duck hunters out there. But I can tell you this; we were the best duck hunters that we could become.
