The CNMI men\u2019s golf team received a needed boost for its campaign in next month\u2019s XV Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea after receiving a donation from Mariana Resort & Spa last Friday in Marpi.<\/p>\n

The $500 check was turned over by Mariana Resort general manager Gloria Cavanagh to Refaluwasch Golf Association treasurer Ben Petersburg and RGA tournament director Manny Mangarero. Mariana Resort executive chef William Retardo, Marianas Country Club operations manager Thomson Palik, and MCC manager Lito Parulan also witnessed the donation turnover ceremony.<\/p>\n

Petersburg said the money will help the CNMI golf team\u2019s trip to Port Moresby, which will host the quadrennial sporting event from July 4 to 18.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re almost there and the money would cover the airfare cost and the trip to PNG. We thank Marianas Resort for their generous contribution and their continued support to the community,\u201d added Petersburg.<\/p>\n

Mangarero said the four-member CNMI team\u2014composed of player-coach Joe \u201cKamikaze\u201d Camacho, Harry Nakamura, Franco Santos, and Louie Tilipao\u2014is set to leave between July 1 and 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team wants to make it to the opening ceremony of the games so they will be there earlier,\u201d Mangarero said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Cavanagh said Mariana Resort has always been there to help the community. \u201cWe always show our support to the community. It is our way of giving back to the people who also support us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe help in every way we can, either in monetary or in kind. We always wanted to be involved in community events,\u201d added Cavanagh, who said that Mariana Resort\u2019s next move is to build a competitive basketball team for the upcoming JP World tournament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
