Tenorio has planned a tour to explore Pagan and has extended the invitation to CNMI lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>According to Tenorio, the main purpose of the trip is to actually see what Pagan looks like, as talks about proposed military activities, homesteading, and free trade zones on the island continue.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_204542\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-204542\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a attid=\"204542\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Pagan-pix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Pagan-pix-300x174.jpg\" alt=\"Department of Public Lands Secretary Pedro A. Pinaroc)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe there is a need see what Pagan looks like now,\u201d Tenorio said.<\/p>\n<p>The official said weather permitting, a chartered boat can take DPL representatives and lawmakers to Pagan \u201csometime during the summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m checking with the chartered boat to get the possible time where the weather will permit the trip. So between now and summer,\u201d Tenorio said.<\/p>\n<p>Tenorio emphasized that the goal of the trip to \u201cto check the place\u201d adding that he has not visited the island in \u201c15 or 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said part of the visit is a homesteading \u201cvillage\u201d that was planned years ago. \u201cI want to see where it is, and see if there are changes in the land,\u201d Tenorio said.<\/p>\n<p>Tenorio said inquiries have already been made, and that the department has set aside $50,000 for the exploratory trip.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. military earlier expressed intention to lease the whole of Pagan as a live training and bombing site, followed by draft environmental impact statement was issued, detailing the effects of the activities.<\/p>\n<p>But the proposal on the live training and bombing was met by a resounding \u201cno,\u201d not just by the CNMI community but also by lawmakers and leaders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Department of Public Lands Secretary Pedro A.
