His new clinic, under Coltrain Medical Group, just opened last month. (Frauleine S. Villanueva)

Opening up the newest medical clinic on Saipan, Morris Coltrain is an advanced practice registered nurse and clinic director of Coltrain Medical Group.

“I started here in December doing family practice,” Morris said, “I actually came here to semi-retire, really not to work, but I got bored so I found this clinic and doctors I can work with and it has been great.”

Coltrain, who has been a practicing nurse for 30 years, focuses on alternative medicine and also has a clinic in Kansas City where he came from.

“I have a clinic in Kansas, doing alternative healthcare and I’ve been looking for a place here to do that,” he said.

Alternative health care
Coltrain’s clinic, which started last month, is unlike most clinics on Saipan owing to the fact that it offers alternative medicine.

According to Coltrain, alternative medicine is a different mode of therapy, unlike typical mainstream medication like pills.

His clinic has services that cater to different health issues such as weight loss management, which is a problem in the CNMI. Last year, a report from the World Health Organization included some Pacific Islands in the top 10 countries with the highest rates of obesity as well as diabetes.

Another valuable service that Coltrain’s clinic offers is chelation therapy.

“I do chelation therapy which is an IV that takes out all the heavy metals in your arteries and veins and opens up your circulation,” Coltrain said.

“The chelation therapy helps increase the blood flow, and when you increase the blood flow, it’s beneficial for the kidneys, for people who have diabetes, it’s beneficial for hypertension,” he added.

Coltrain noted that there are a number of people on Saipan who are suffering from hypertension and diabetes.

“I think there are plenty of people here to keep us busy,” Coltrain said.

He also does intravenous vitamin therapy, bio-identical hormones replacement, botox and xeomin injections, erectile dysfunction treatment for men, and libido improvement for men and women.

Vitamins for intravenous therapy include vitamins C and B which according to Coltrain help build and strengthen the immune system and replace those that were lost because of stress.

“That’s just some of the things that I do here that they don’t do,” he said.

Better quality of life

Coltrain believes that alternative medicine is very beneficial and does not do any harm in the body.

“This is a different kind of medicine,” Coltrain said.

“[Patients] think better, they feel better overall, so it’s a better quality of life. You do these things, it does give you a better quality of life and that’s what life is all about,” he added.

Even though alternative medicine may cost money as opposed to not doing anything to take care of yourself now, Coltrain believes it is a great investment.

“If you spend a little money to take care of yourself, then you may not develop the problems down the road 10 years from now,” he said, “Prevent it from happening before it happens. We have some things to help you do that.”

Coltrain Medical Group’s clinic is located at the Marianas Health MediPacific Building in Ghiyegi Street in San Jose.
