Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang said that volunteers for Saipan\u2019s animal shelter have been a big help to his office and that the dog control program is improving.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are very helpful to our staff, they are always there helping, cleaning, walking the dogs, and it\u2019s a great opportunity. We are very thankful for that,\u201d Apatang said.<\/p>\n
Jason Hudy, leading the volunteer program for the group Saipan Cares for Animals, said that there are more than 50 volunteers willing to step up and become interested in helping care for the animals.<\/p>\n
Hudy said that they have set up programs at the shelter such as adoption, fostering, and outreach.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe most immediate place to help is volunteering at the shelter,\u201d Hudy said.<\/p>\n
Apatang said that the volunteer program had started two weeks ago at the shelter. However, the volunteers were also a part of the dog sterilization services held by Animal Balance, Humane Society International, and Humane Society of U.S in collaboration with the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
The shelter is open from 9am to 11:30am and 4pm to 6pm each day for the volunteers to come in and take care, walk, and love the dogs, according to Hudy.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery dog was walked and so much cleaning and organization took place\u2026 We have kittens that are in need of fostering\u2026dogs are up for adoption as well,\u201d Hudy said.<\/p>\n
The Saipan Cares for Animals will also be joining the 2015 Liberation Day Parade with a float of their own this July 4.<\/p>\n
