The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administrations, and Center for Substance Abuse Prevention is accepting applications for the two-year Prevention Fellowship Program.<\/p>\n
According to Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. CEO Esther L. Muna, one slot is open at CHCC for the program. The recipient, she said, will be mentored by Dr. Glenda George-Concepcion<\/p>\n
Muna explained that the CNMI has been a part of the program since its inception in 2006.<\/p>\n
According to the organization\u2019s website, the program was launched in an effort to build a workforce of substance abuse professionals.<\/p>\n
During their Prevention Fellowship Program experience, fellows focus on acquiring the necessary skills for success in the fields of substance abuse prevention and behavioral health. The program also trains individuals to provide capacity-building Technical Assistance to support integration of behavioral health prevention services in their state\/territories.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is part of SAMHSA\u2019s support for integrating policies and programs related to prevention and behavioral health promotion in states, U.S. territories, and local organizations,\u201d the website stated.<\/p>\n
The fellow will receive a yearly stipend of up to $37,000, and will be required to work 32 hours per week. The CNMI is one of more than a dozen states and U.S. territories participating in the program.<\/p>\n
Muna believes that it is an \u201cexcellent opportunity\u201d to build local capacity and provides the fellow an opportunity for more in-depth research and training.<\/p>\n
She noted that applications are reviewed by SAMHSA for approval, which also determines the recipient of the fellowship.<\/p>\n
\u201cCHCC has received fellows in other programs and as with other fellows, we hope the individual remains in the CNMI,\u201d Muna added.<\/p>\n
