The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management yesterday urged CNMI residents to monitor the development of the formation of a tropical cyclone northeast of Pohnpei.<\/p>\n
According to HSEM, the formation could bring a gradual increase in showers and thunderstorms to the Marianas by the end of the week, with a tropical storm or typhoon over or near the islands over the weekend.<\/p>\n
HSEM said the circulation northeast of Pohnpei is expected to gradually begin moving toward the west-northwest in the next day or so.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the circulation west-northwest of Chuuk may drift toward the east or east-northeast and gradually be absorbed into the first circulation.<\/p>\n
HSEM said there is still some uncertainty in the expected intensity of the storm as well as the exact timing and path that it will take.<\/p>\n
The National Weather Service in Guam said westerly monsoon winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour and large waves of 7 to 10 feet and up to 12 feet will continue across much of Micronesia this week.<\/p>\n
