Basketball Association on Northern Mariana Islands wanted to push through with the 2015 Liberation Day Tournament despite the likely absence of the Andersen Bombers.<\/p>\n
Tournament director Elias Rangamar said the Bombers are supposed to join the July 2 to July 5 competition, but the visiting squad informed him yesterday that they may not be able to make the Saipan trip due to flight availability.<\/p>\n
In an email to Rangamar, a representative from the Anderson Bombers said that they are having difficulty securing a flight back to Guam on July 6. The representative added they were scheduled to have practice last night and make the final decision about their participation in the tournament.<\/p>\n
Pending the formal withdrawal from the Bombers, Rangamar said they want to go ahead with the tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would still like to see our open men\u2019s division go on as planned so we can gauge where we are at but most importantly get some basketball action going. I will reduce the entry fee from $100 to $50,\u201d Rangamar said in an email sent to the interested teams.<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s open division has four squads in the Bombers, Hoops, Ol\u2019Aces, and the Junior Ol\u2019Aces, while the junior category features the Marianas Dolphins Marianas-Alu\u2019u, Marianas Tataga, and Women\u2019s National. Each division has a pool play format with the Top 2 teams advancing to the finals.<\/p>\n
