Northern Marianas College has announced that it has awarded Coldwell Solar Scholarships to eight deserving high school students who will be dual enrolled students.<\/p>\n

The Coldwell Solar Scholarship, sponsored by Coldwell Solar International, is designed to provide college-ready high school students with access to enrollment in college level courses at Northern Marianas College while currently enrolled in high school. Each scholarship award covers the cost of tuition, fees, and books for enrollment in up to two courses in an academic year.

\u201cThe scholarships from Coldwell provides much-needed financial assistance for high school student who want to get an early start on their college journey,\u201d said NMC president Dr. Sharon Hart. \u201cWe congratulate the recipients of this scholarship and express our deepest appreciation to Coldwell Solar International for partnering with NMC to make this scholarship program possible, This is the first company to step forward to provide for students presently enrolled in high school but are eligible for federal financial aid.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Leo Pangelinan, NMC dean of Student Services, applicants for the scholarship needed to write an essay regarding the impact of the use of renewable energy sources in the CNMI. \u201cIt\u2019s clear the awardees this year had put a lot of thought and research into the opportunities and challenges for alternative energy in the CNMI. I hope this award serves as a catalyst for more of our high school graduates to study the problem of providing electric utilities to our community.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The recipients of the scholarship include Dianne M. Arnold, Grace Christian Academy; Lilly Jean K. Bautista, Kagman High School; Corlaine C. Camacho, Marianas High School; Balbina Mariana P. Concepcion, Marianas High School; Rebekah H. Kim, Northern Marianas Academy; Camille Joy Masilungan, Grace Christian Academy; Camille Joyce M. Ricafort, Marianas High School; and Robert L. Solis, Northern Marianas Academy.<\/p>\n

Each student will be receiving more than $1,000 in scholarship funds.<\/p>\n

Coldwell Solar International is a commercial solar provider licensed in the CNMI and is located at the Marianas Business Plaza. It\u2019s parent company, Coldwell Solar Inc. is based in Rocklin, with offices in Visalia, Burbank and Petaluma, California. The company is dedicated to providing effective, reliable and efficient solar energy solutions and services to business and utility clients.<\/p>\n

\u201cColdwell Solar is always happy to provide an avenue for students to continue their education,\u201d said Coldwell Solar CEO Dave Hood. \u201cThis is a great new program to encourage high school students to go on to college. We will continue to support these types of programs and activities on Saipan and the CNMI.” Dr. Hart had met with CEO Dave Hood and his staff earlier this year in Rocklin to discuss the interest in providing scholarships to NMC student.<\/p>\n
