{"id":206724,"date":"2015-07-23T14:06:50","date_gmt":"2015-07-23T04:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=206724"},"modified":"2015-07-23T14:06:50","modified_gmt":"2015-07-23T04:06:50","slug":"repair-ship-set-to-arrive-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/repair-ship-set-to-arrive-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Repair ship set to arrive today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ship set to repair the undersea fiber optic cable between Saipan and Tinian is scheduled to arrive today, Thursday, IT&#038;E sales and marketing manager Hans Mickelson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still set for tomorrow,\u201d Mickelson said yesterday. \u201cHopefully, it didn\u2019t hit any inclement weather and it will show tomorrow and we can start to begin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ship, heading from Taiwan, was originally scheduled to arrive Wednesday, July 22, after departing Taiwan at 10pm last Thursday. When it does arrive, IT&#038;E is expected to load the vessel with equipment needed for repair and begin right away on this process.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the initial investigation, identifying the \u201cbreak\u201d location, and the type of break, IT&#038;E expects a potential 48-hour repair timeline.<\/p>\n<p>Mickelson said once the \u201csplice\u201d is fixed, Internet speeds would be back to normal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be night and day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Internet speeds users experience will be the capacity they will experience in the interim until IT&#038;E gets the cable fixed.<\/p>\n<p>IT&#038;E has not yet located the area of damage to the fiber optic line after hiring divers to inspect the line last week.
