Villanueva)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>Members of the media were invited to check out their training facility at the Bank of Guam building in Garapan yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 46 employees in training, about 29 are dealers.<\/p>\n<p>According to pit manager Isha King, many came from the U.S. mainland\u2019s casino capitals such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City.<\/p>\n<p>Training manager Mike Shure, who has been in the casino business for 20 years, said the dealers-in-training are \u201cgood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re just naturals,\u201d Shure said. \u201cThey really want to be dealers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So far, Shure said, he has lost only three students.<\/p>\n<p>King, who worked for Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino for 13 years, said that one of the challenges for her was to teach the dealers Baccarat with a 5-percent commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not easy for new dealers to do 5 percent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She started training with the dealers just last week.<\/p>\n<p>King said that math skills, attitude, and personality are some of the criteria needed to be successful dealers.<\/p>\n<p>Casino supervisors and managers as well as surveillance personnel are also being trained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need to know the game too,\u201d King said.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, Shure said they are focusing on training U.S. citizens and green card holders, especially those who live on island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy requirements for me to train you [is you] need to be an islander. I like to train people who live here,\u201d Shure said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now that\u2019s my directive. More islanders should get involved,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>King echoed the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor now we don\u2019t have CW-1s,\u201d she said, adding that CWs are \u201cnot approved yet.\u201d CW1 employees are foreign workers that are petitioned to work in the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<p>The training facility started last June 15 and the number of trainees continue to increase, according to Shure.<\/p>\n<p>He said that they will be training another batch of dealers soon after the first group begins working at the live training casino.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if the dealers are ready for the soft opening, Shure said \u201cYou\u2019re never ready as you want to be.
