F. Matthew Smith passes away"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long-time Commonwealth Development Authority legal counsel F. Matthew Smith passed away at his residence on Capital Hill last Friday, July 31, of natural causes, Saipan Tribune learned.<\/p>\n<p>Smith\u2019s wife, Christina, died in 2013. Last year, Crime Stoppers International awarded her the \u201cPresident\u2019s Global Award\u201d for her outstanding contributions to the program.<\/p>\n<p>The couple left behind four children: Taylor, Madison, Harrison, and Carter.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Smith, 49, was the producer of Baptists at Our Barbecue, a 2004 comedy based on a 1996 novel by his brother, Robert Farrell Smith.<\/p>\n<p>The F. Mathew Smith Law Office is located in San Jose. His partners are CNMI Bar Association president Jennifer Dockter and Mark Scoggins.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Viola Alepuyo said the Commonwealth has lost a champion who never hesitated to defend the poor who needed help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe never hesitated to lend me a helping hand and mentor me when I called.
