{"id":207161,"date":"2015-07-22T13:37:52","date_gmt":"2015-07-22T03:37:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=207161"},"modified":"2015-07-22T13:37:52","modified_gmt":"2015-07-22T03:37:52","slug":"cpa-to-upgrade-tinian-airport-sewer-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cpa-to-upgrade-tinian-airport-sewer-line\/","title":{"rendered":"CPA to upgrade Tinian airport sewer line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Ports Authority will improve the sewer system for the Tinian airport to go with ongoing terminal improvements.<\/p>\n<p>The CPA board voted to award the construction management services for the Tinian airport sewer line and sewer system to the company, GHD, last week.<\/p>\n<p>The project is funded separately from the Office of Insular Affairs-backed Tinian terminal improvements that broke ground last Friday, but will go together to open a terminal for direct flights.<\/p>\n<p>During a CPA board meeting last week, CPA executive assistant Wendi Prater told board members that the board in September approved using settlement funds from a previous case for the sewer line projects.<\/p>\n<p>CPA negotiated with the highest ranked consultant and was waiting to award the contract to the consultant before putting to bid the sewer project.<\/p>\n<p>Prater said the sewer project was originally part of the terminal improvement project. \u201cBut the departure terminal will not have a septic system unless we do this project. So in order to open the terminal we have to do the sewer line,\u201d she told board members.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday, CPA and stakeholders broke ground on the Tinian terminal repairs with the aim to have direct flights to the island of Tinian.<\/p>\n<p>CPA, through contractors ASC Corp., has set a completion time of 270 days. SSFM CNMI, LLC is the construction manager.
