{"id":207211,"date":"2015-07-14T14:52:51","date_gmt":"2015-07-14T04:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=207211"},"modified":"2015-07-14T14:52:51","modified_gmt":"2015-07-14T04:52:51","slug":"saipan-mayors-office-still-seeks-more-funds-for-heavy-equipment-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/saipan-mayors-office-still-seeks-more-funds-for-heavy-equipment-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office still seeks  more funds for heavy equipment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office still need funds to acquire more heavy equipment for road repairs on secondary roads.<\/p>\n<p>Although the office is okay now, it still needs to get more heavy equipment, said special assistant Henry Hofschneider.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still have limited funding from our federal grant and we will be putting out a request for proposals\u2026We still have about $71,000 left and we\u2019re going to spend most\u2014at least $50,000 for heavy equipment and $20,000 some for heavy equipment parts or training,\u201d Hofschneider said.<\/p>\n<p>The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office currently has one dump truck, two riding mowers, two backhoes, and equipment for maintenance that they recently purchased through a $413,000 grant from the Office of Insular Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>They have also used $100,000 from last year\u2019s appropriation from the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation for a bucket truck and other equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Hofschneider said they plan to apply for OIA funding once again, and may apply for the same amount that they secured last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe might ask for the same amount because we still need a small road compactor, payloader, and a smaller dump truck,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for the grant is in October.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of funds to add more full-time employees has also been an issue.
