{"id":207392,"date":"2015-08-07T06:06:38","date_gmt":"2015-08-06T20:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=207392"},"modified":"2015-08-07T06:06:38","modified_gmt":"2015-08-06T20:06:38","slug":"pss-to-issue-school-schedule-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/pss-to-issue-school-schedule-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"PSS to issue school schedule next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Public School System should have a preliminary schedule ready for the start of classes by Monday, Education Commissioner Dr. Rita Sablan said.<\/p>\n<p>The Public School System has been assessing damage to their school in the wake of Typhoon Soudelor.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear right how school schedules will be altered as the recent typhoon has left Saipan\u2019s power grid crippled and water services limited.<\/p>\n<p>PSS was set to start classes for Early Intervention, and classes for all grade levels K-12 on Aug. 25<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Saipan International School has targeted Aug. 17 as a start to school. Classes were supposed to begin Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>SIS principal Tim Bray said their school was not damaged too badly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently cleaning and repairing and hope to have school by Aug. 17, but this obviously depends on many factors. The main issue is water. We can have school without power; it is painful but doable. On the other hand, we can\u2019t have school without water. Students and teachers have to be able to use the restroom,\u201d he told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Carmel School president Galvin Deleon Guerrero has also informed students and parents that the opening date of the 2015\u20132016 school year for both Mount Carmel School and Sister Remedios Early Childhood Development Center has been postponed until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently assessing the damage to the school and monitoring updates on key infrastructure\u2014power, water, communications\u2014in order to determine when the school year will start.
