Congratulations to Victoria Chentsova for a record-breaking swim at the XV Pacific Games in Port Moresby,” NMISF board member Carol Lynn Calobong-Pierce said in an email sent to Saipan Tribune early this month.

Chentsova completed the four-lap race in 2:14.06 to set a new CNMI national record and age group mark in the 17 to 18 division. She eclipsed the records (2:15.08 in the 17 to 18 age group and national) Xenavee Pangelinan posted on March 31, 2000.

Besides earning two marks in the 200m freestyle race last July 7, Chentsova also finished third in the qualifying heat to make it to the finals. She eventually placed fifth in the medal round after submitting 2:14.60. New Caledonia’s Lara Grangeon (2:03.77) won the gold medal, while Fiji’s Matelita Buadromo (2:08.41) and Lea Ricarrere (2:13.21) also of New Caledonia took the silver and bronze, respectively.

Meanwhile, Chentsova joined seven other events in last month’s Pacific Games. She started off the competition with a personal best in the 100m freestyle (1:04.13 to beat her 1:04.53). The Saipan Swim Club swimmer also earned PBTs in the 50m freestyle (29.74 seconds), 400m freestyle (4:45.74), and 50m backstroke (35.81 seconds).

Chentsova’s other events were the 800m freestyle (10:01.49), where she missed the podium only by a notch after placing fourth, 200m backstroke (2:45.200), and 200m individual medley (2:47.53). She marched into the finals of the 200m IM and surpassed her qualifying time after logging 2:45.56. The CNMI swimmer then concluded the tournament with a fifth place finish in the 3K open water swim where she registered 51:04.

Northern Mariana Islands Swimming Federation has certified the records Victoria Chentsova made in the 200m…

[5
465,196,1655,3248
post-207832","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sports","tag-new-caledonia","tag-papua-new-guinea","tag-port-moresby","tag-victoria-chentsova
["GET
