{"id":207923,"date":"2015-07-15T14:59:30","date_gmt":"2015-07-15T04:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=207923"},"modified":"2015-07-15T14:59:30","modified_gmt":"2015-07-15T04:59:30","slug":"doc-to-look-into-economic-impact-of-network-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/doc-to-look-into-economic-impact-of-network-outage\/","title":{"rendered":"DOC to look into economic  impact of network outage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Commerce is now working to come up with an assessment on the economic impact of the CNMI-wide network outage and the ongoing limited Internet problem on Saipan<\/p>\n<p>According to acting Commerce secretary Dave Maratita, they will be doing a survey to be able to get information from the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was discussed in the Cabinet meeting. We will look into that,\u201d Maratita said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that it will be a socio-economic survey that will look into what kind of impact businesses experienced from this problem<\/p>\n<p>Maratita also said that they will try to capture the businesses\u2019 as well as the consumers\u2019 standpoint on what impact they experienced.<\/p>\n<p>He said they will be waiting for Commerce Secretary Mark Rabauliman, who should be returning to the island this week after being on leave due to official business.<\/p>\n<p>The department did not give a rough estimate on how much the CNMI lost and is losing because of the network problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe survey will definitely give an overall estimate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the approach will probably be to conduct a survey on random businesses and consumers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut that\u2019s not definite yet.
