{"id":207977,"date":"2015-08-14T10:40:06","date_gmt":"2015-08-14T00:40:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=207977"},"modified":"2015-08-14T10:40:06","modified_gmt":"2015-08-14T00:40:06","slug":"filipinos-urged-to-avail-of-relief-assistance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/filipinos-urged-to-avail-of-relief-assistance\/","title":{"rendered":"Filipinos urged to avail of relief assistance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Filipinos on Saipan affected by Typhoon Soudelor are urged to seek for relief that is being made available to the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo our kababayans, try to avail of the relief being provided by FEMA and other agencies,\u201d Honorary Consul to the Philippines Glicerio \u201cEli\u201d Arago said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI encourage them to apply for whatever relief is available from the agencies that are providing assistance,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Arago said that everyone is welcome to apply and that \u201cthere\u2019s nothing wrong for them to try.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFEMA will screen everything and then they will ask information. Even if they get denied, if you have communication with them they might reconsider,\u201d Arago said.<\/p>\n<p>Arago said his office is open to help those who need assistance in their applications, particularly in explaining how the process goes. He also encouraged Filipino organizations to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who have access to the Internet can help those who don\u2019t have access,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consular outreach postponed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Arago added that the mobile outreach of the Guam Consulate General that was supposed to start yesterday on Saipan may probably push through next month. The Tinian leg of the outreach was also deferred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know the exact date,\u201d Arago said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, it depends on the recovery of the island. He said it\u2019s hard to hold the outreach now as there is limited space and no power supply and some Filipinos also got displaced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rice and water donations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last Sunday, Arago, together with the United Filipino Organizations, gave out rice and water to Filipino families who are in need.<\/p>\n<p>Arago said he as well as UFO and Bayani Association donated $500 each while the Philippine Consulate in Guam gave $2,000 for the relief effort.<\/p>\n<p>UFO president Bong Malasarte said they were able to give 466 1-lb bags of rice to Filipino households on the island.<\/p>\n<p>With the help of Delegate Gregorio Kilili C.
