{"id":208184,"date":"2015-07-24T15:15:14","date_gmt":"2015-07-24T05:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=208184"},"modified":"2015-07-24T15:15:14","modified_gmt":"2015-07-24T05:15:14","slug":"spc-launches-pacific-islands-fuel-pricing-manual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/spc-launches-pacific-islands-fuel-pricing-manual\/","title":{"rendered":"SPC launches Pacific Islands Fuel Pricing Manual"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>HONOLULU, Hawaii<\/strong>\u2014Despite progress to transform the energy systems of Pacific Island countries and territories by increasing the use of renewables, the region\u2019s dependence on fossil fuels will not disappear overnight.<\/p>\n<p><a attid=\"208187\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Fuel-Pricing-Manual-pix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Fuel-Pricing-Manual-pix.jpg\" alt=\"Pacific fuel price manual vs1.indd\" width=\"424\" height=\"600\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-208187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the message from the Secretariat of the Pacific Community at the launch Tuesday of the first edition of the\u00a0Pacific Islands Fuel Pricing Manual, an information aid to improve understanding among Pacific Island stakeholders of the basic elements of the fuel industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Pacific Island region\u2019s fuel industry has an estimated value of $6 billion per year.<\/p>\n<p>This trend is expected to continue to thrive for some time to come, according to SPC director for Economic Development Division, Capt. John Hogan.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the pricing manual launch, held in the wings of the \u201cTransforming Pacific Island Energy Systems\u201d workshop in Honolulu, Hogan said Pacific Island countries and territories will need to continue to plan and manage the fuel industry to ensure that it is cost-effective, safe, and secure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, countries are encouraged to look at ways to individually or collectively negotiate for more cost effective supply and logistics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The new manual has been prepared to inform and support the work of Pacific Island officials who regulate or monitor the price of fuel in their respective jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a fast changing industry and we hope to provide regular updates through further editions into the future,\u201d SPC petroleum adviser Alan Bartmanovich said.<\/p>\n<p>The launch coincides with the Pacific Region Infrastructure Facility regional consultation with stakeholders within the Pacific region to assist in finalizing the report of the liquefied natural gas\/liquefied petroleum gas study.
