David<br \/>\nReporter<\/div>\n<p>The CNMI State Board of Education has unanimously approved a 5-percent salary adjustment for the Public School System&#8217;s federal programs officer.<\/p>\n<p>The board agreed at a special meeting yesterday that the increase will be added to Tim Thornburgh&#8217;s base salary, which now stands at $65,000 per annum following the adjustment.<\/p>\n<p>Acting on the recommendation made by Education Commissioner Rita Sablan, the board made its decision after the PSS Fiscal, Personnel, and Administrative Committee endorsed the salary hike.<\/p>\n<p>This was among the several issues deliberated on by the FPA committee during its executive session held prior to the 11am special meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Committee chair Tanya King said the salary adjustment is justified by the amount of responsibilities that the federal programs officer has, including his capacity as acting commissioner on various occasions.<\/p>\n<p>According to King, the adjustment will make Thornburgh&#8217;s salary commensurate to his responsibilities as well as aligned with other PSS directors<\/p>\n<p>King noted that Thornburgh&#8217;s salary increase will solely come from federal funds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Clarissa V.
