Only those who have not called the Red Cross and are in need of assistance should call 234-3459 to schedule an appointment to meet with a Red Cross staff. This call is free when made with most prepaid phones. Due to high call volumes, patience is appreciated and calls after office hours is preferred. Those seeking assistance should not visit the Red Cross office without an appointment.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement yesterday, Red Cross said there seems to be misinformation in the community regarding how to receive assistance and the organization is being inundated with repeat callers, which is slowing its processes down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs always, our top priority is ensuring we are providing assistance to those who need it. We are doing so as expeditiously as possible,\u201d the statement adds.<\/p>\n<p>In related news, much needed relief items were delivered to the Port of Saipan yesterday. The American Red Cross has been awaiting the delivery and is preparing to provide these items to those who need them.<\/p>\n<p>Local businesses like Joeten Dai Dai Foundation, who donated $40,000 in cash and in-kind donations, say they have confidence in the Red Cross\u2019 ability to help the people of Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe trust our donation is going to the right people when we give to the Red Cross.\u201d said Patty McDonald, executive director of the Joeten Dai Dai Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re grateful to the many members of our community providing support to the Red Cross during this difficult time for those on the island,\u201d said John Hirsh, executive director of the Northern Mariana Islands Chapter. \u201cThe success of our relief operation is dependent on the generosity and goodwill of those who live here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>People can help by donating to Red Cross Disaster Relief by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the Red Cross NMI Chapter on Twitter @spnmarianas for real time updates.
