Federal assistance for individual households in the wake of Typhoon Soudelor has reached $944,404.82 so far.<\/p>\n
The number of registrants for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency has also reached 6,808, while inspections has been completed for 670 households.<\/p>\n
Visitors to the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center have totaled 1,123 so far.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am pleased at the efficiency of FEMA\u2019s system in quickly disbursing much needed recovery funds to families through the Individual Assistance Program,\u201d Gov. Eloy S. Inos said, adding that \u201cwith this money, families are able to recover, rebuild, and repair their homes and belongings.\u201d<\/p>\n
The governor, however, stressed that \u201cit is important to note that these funds were never meant to supplant but rather supplement your recovery and rebuilding efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge recipients that they are required to use the funds for what they are intended for. Any misuse or use other than what they\u2019re intended for may be subjected to audits and investigations by FEMA\u2019s Inspector General. Use the funds wisely. Rebuild and recover what you can,\u201d Inos said.<\/p>\n
FEMA earlier said housing inspectors have been assessing damaged homes of applicants who registered with FEMA for damage sustained in the typhoon.<\/p>\n
In an advisory, FEMA said those found qualified will receive a check by mail or have the funds deposited directly into the individual\u2019s bank account.<\/p>\n
Recipients will also receive a letter describing how to use the money. FEMA said individuals should only use the money given as explained in the letter and that receipts should be saved on how the money was spent.<\/p>\n
If an individual does not qualify for a FEMA grant, the individual will receive a letter explaining why the person was ineligible and will be given clear information on how to appeal the decision.<\/p>\n
Appeals must be in writing and mailed within 60 days of FEMA\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
FEMA said appeals may relate to your initial eligibility decisions, the amount or type of assistance provided to you, late applications, requests to return money, or a denial of Continued Temporary Housing Assistance.<\/p>\n
Prior to requesting an appeal review, individuals should review their files with a FEMA helpline agent at 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA), or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585, or request a copy of the files file from FEMA.<\/p>\n
FEMA said all appeals are reviewed and decisions usually are made within 30 days of receiving the request.<\/p>\n
Additional information may be requested from the individual if FEMA does not have enough information to make a decision.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
