Valdez, a 44-year-old ex-convict, was slapped with a six-month prison term for forging several stolen checks and using them to buy goods at different stores on Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Valdez pleaded guilty to theft last week as part of a plea agreement. The remaining eight charges of forgery were dropped.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Valdez to three years imprisonment, all suspended except for six months.<\/p>\n<p>After completing the prison term, Valdez will be placed on supervised probation for three years.<\/p>\n<p>Valdez was ordered to pay a total of $2,073 in restitution to the victims\u2014LJ Store in Garapan, Twins Super Market in Dandan, Ming Yang Store in San Vicente, Blue Sky Store in San Antonio, L&#038;Q Store in Garapan, New Chang Ming Market, and to Maria P. Blas.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant was also required to perform 300 hours of community service.<\/p>\n<p>Valdez was allowed to start serving the prison term at the Department of Corrections on Sept. 14, 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eleno B.
