The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is ahead of schedule in re-energizing the Garapan tourist district, restoring power to the area around the T Galleria, according to acting CUC executive director John Riegel.<\/p>\n
After a status conference for federal court-stipulated orders, Riegel said he would be meeting with CUC power manager Gary Camacho to go over plans to re-energizing the island.<\/p>\n
People want a timeframe for power restoration, Riegel acknowledged, but CUC has not given an exact date for power restoration as their efforts rely on shipment of materials and other logistics.<\/p>\n
Some 1,200 poles\u2014200 of them concrete power poles\u2014are planned for the islandwide power restoration efforts.<\/p>\n
After Typhoon Soudelor hit over three weeks ago, CUC\u2019s priorities were to restore power to the hospital, then airport, and then the Garapan tourist district.<\/p>\n
According to Riegel, he planned to discuss with Camacho yesterday what plans come after these priorities.<\/p>\n
Since Saturday and throughout the week, CUC and the Guam Power Authority have been installing the 90 concrete poles that arrived over the weekend.<\/p>\n
Riegel earlier said about half of the poles were installed on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
