{"id":209665,"date":"2015-09-03T04:00:54","date_gmt":"2015-09-02T18:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=209665"},"modified":"2015-09-03T04:00:54","modified_gmt":"2015-09-02T18:00:54","slug":"nominees-sought-for-governors-humanities-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/nominees-sought-for-governors-humanities-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominees sought for Governor\u2019s  Humanities Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is accepting nominations for the 2015 Governor\u2019s Humanities Awards.<\/p>\n<p>This event, held annually in October as a part of CNMI Humanities Month, recognizes outstanding contributions to the humanities by individuals and organizations in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Nominees should have a notable humanities achievement in the past year, as demonstrated in any of the following four categories: Research and Publication in the Humanities; Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices; Preservation of CNMI History; and Outstanding Humanities Teacher (in both classroom and non-classroom settings).<\/p>\n<p>A fifth category, Lifetime Achievement, recognizes significant contributions to the humanities over multiple decades.\u00a0 This award may be given posthumously.<\/p>\n<p>The 2014 awardees included Drs. Hsiao-chun Hung and Mike T. Carson, Research and Publication in the Humanities; Marie S.C. Castro, Preservation of CNMI History; Noriyasu Horiguchi, Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices; Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho and Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero, Outstanding Humanities Teachers; and Abed Younis, Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities.<\/p>\n<p>Nomination forms and instructions are available at the council\u2019s office in the Springs Plaza Building, Gualo Rai, or on the council website at www.northernmarianashumanities.org.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations may be made by any member of the general public and are due no later than 4:30pm on Friday, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n<p>Awards will be presented during a ceremony to be held in late October.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact council staff at 235-4785.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is accepting nominations for the 2015 Governor\u2019s Humanities Awards.
