The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is accepting nominations for the 2015 Governor\u2019s Humanities Awards.<\/p>\n
This event, held annually in October as a part of CNMI Humanities Month, recognizes outstanding contributions to the humanities by individuals and organizations in the community.<\/p>\n
Nominees should have a notable humanities achievement in the past year, as demonstrated in any of the following four categories: Research and Publication in the Humanities; Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices; Preservation of CNMI History; and Outstanding Humanities Teacher (in both classroom and non-classroom settings).<\/p>\n
A fifth category, Lifetime Achievement, recognizes significant contributions to the humanities over multiple decades.\u00a0 This award may be given posthumously.<\/p>\n
The 2014 awardees included Drs. Hsiao-chun Hung and Mike T. Carson, Research and Publication in the Humanities; Marie S.C. Castro, Preservation of CNMI History; Noriyasu Horiguchi, Preservation of Traditional Cultural Practices; Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho and Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero, Outstanding Humanities Teachers; and Abed Younis, Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities.<\/p>\n
Nomination forms and instructions are available at the council\u2019s office in the Springs Plaza Building, Gualo Rai, or on the council website at www.northernmarianashumanities.org.<\/p>\n
Nominations may be made by any member of the general public and are due no later than 4:30pm on Friday, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n
Awards will be presented during a ceremony to be held in late October.<\/p>\n
