Ed Propst (Ind-Saipan) recently extended a helping hand to Saipan Mayor’s Office animal shelter with a $1,000 worth donation of dog food and other supplies.

According to Propst, he recently talked with Dog Control Program manager Spencer Marchadesch about the needs of the animal shelter and that feeding the dogs was a primary concern to ensure they are healthy and readily adoptable.

“They have been doing an adoption program for the dogs at the shelter so we purchased the food,” Propst said. “The dogs in the shelter need love and affection, but their most basic needs must also be met. If we can get the dogs at the shelter to a healthy weight, the more adoptable they become.”

“I want to thank Marchadesch and his team, [Saipan Cares for Animals volunteer Jason] Hudy and his team of volunteers for their tireless efforts in caring for neglected animals and for trying to find each and every one of them a loving home,” Propst said.

“There are those who believe I should forget about animals because we must focus on our people. No doubt that I will always put our people first, but why can’t we do both? Why can’t we help our people and help our animals as well? We are a loving community, and you can tell a lot about us as a people by how we treat each other, and also how we treat our animals,” he said.

Propst noted that he will also be donating funding to charitable organizations such as Empty Vessel, Karidat, and CNMI Salvation Army to purchase food and products they would be distributing to the community.

“We will be utilizing the funds that we have not just for Precinct 1 but the community and some of it will go to children as well as the non-profit organizations whose mission is to feed people and distribute the needed items to the community,” Propst said.

Saipan Mayor’s Office special assistant Henry Hofschneider noted that, on behalf of Mayor David M.
