{"id":209790,"date":"2015-09-04T06:06:19","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T20:06:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=209790"},"modified":"2015-09-04T06:06:19","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T20:06:19","slug":"salvation-army-to-hold-last-day-of-disaster-soup-kitchen-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/salvation-army-to-hold-last-day-of-disaster-soup-kitchen-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Salvation Army to hold last day of disaster soup kitchen today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Salvation Army will be having its last day of mass feeding today.<\/p>\n<p>The organization has been providing meals to the public since the week Typhoon Soudelor hit Saipan on Aug. 2.<\/p>\n<p>Last Wednesday, the Salvation Army and the feeding center near Kagman market being organized by Church 360, Kagman Community Church, and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief hit a milestone, having served a total of 40,000 meals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe actually held it open longer than what was actually needed,\u201d said Salvation Army pastor Wayne Gillespie.<\/p>\n<p>The Kagman feeding center will continue with their mass feeding until Sept. 10 from 12pm to 3pm, according to Joy Jones.<\/p>\n<p>Gillespie said Salvation Army will return to their normal soup kitchen operations next week Friday, Sept. 11.<\/p>\n<p>Gillespie added that they will be going out to do field work now \u201cto do assessments, to visit people who did not qualify for assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aside from needs assessment, the Salvation Army will also do case work and spiritual counseling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter that we\u2019ll be transitioning into long-term recovery which is unmet needs,\u201d Gillespie said.<\/p>\n<p>The Salvation Army is part of and is working closely with the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Salvation Army will be having its last day of mass feeding today.
